Yesterday, I decided to embark upon my first social media/social networking project…It started when @marciaforbes wondered out loud on her Twitter how many Jamaicans are blogging…That sparked an idea in my mind and I created the #Jamaicanblogger hashtag, encouraging all Jamaicans on Twitter to add their URL and the hashtag to a Tweet.
My good friend, Dmitri Dawkins, took it a step further and aggregated the statistics of the people who were tweeting with the hashtag (see below) and then created an awesome (and still growing) list of Jamaican bloggers, based on the Tweets!
I must admit I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the results – a lot of connections have been made (and are still being made)…and I’ve had a chance to be introduced to many interesting blogs.
To be included in the Jamaican Bloggers listing on Twitter, make sure your Tweets are unprotected (first of all), then simply tweet your blog’s URL and add the #Jamaicanblogger hashtag…And that’s you! Make sure you follow Dmitri’s list on Twitter – another user, who I found via the hashtag, @Jherane_ also has a similar list – you can follow that one too.
Other Twitter users who have been utilising the wonder that is Twitter (some of you insist that it’s a den of iniquity – but that’s ANOTHER social networking site which shall remain un-named) to increase our online presence. One of them is @Gordonswaby – check out his blog here, and his list here.
Happy blogging!

excellent idea for a hashtag I hope it never dies out and we can have a decent community on Twitter to share ideas and network.
Thanks! I hope so too – it’s amazing that the hashtag is only a day old and so far it’s amassed 112 mentions (as of 12:49pm)…WILD!
Awesome idea. I don’t think I can claim to be a Jamaican blogger anymore though – although I am still Jamaican (and always will be), my blog hasn’t been about Jamaica for a long LONG time. /sigh
Then again – it matta?
