Athletic fans locally and internationally alike will be dismayed to hear the news that the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, will not be competing for the remainder of the 2010 athletic season.
Bolt’s manager, Ricky Simms, has alerted international media houses via a statement issued today, writing:
“He (Usain) has a tightness that restricts his ability to generate power in his stride and continuing to race in this condition could risk injury to his hamstrings or calf muscles.”
This news comes nearly a week after Bolt’s loss in the 100m at the Diamond League to American Tyson Gay.
See, people? All I’m saying is, Usain’s a human being!
The SAME love we gave him when he was at the top of his game should be no different now that he’s nursing an injury.
Simms has made the right decision to pull him out of the rest of the ’10 season – what’s the point of stressing his body out to complete this year’s athletic season when it could possibly mean no good for his future as an athlete?
Let’s hope the conspiracy theories end now and that we don’t become ‘fairweather supporters’.
