Bun, cheating, infidelity, bruk foot – whatever you want to call it, it’s been a part of relationships since the dawn of time. (Dawn of time? Don’t quote me on that, but I’m pretty sure). Over the past few months, the public has been bombarded by local and international media about which celebrities have been caught stepping out on their significant others, gag orders, injuctions, super-injunctions, love child(ren) etc. What gets me is the shock and awe these stories generate amongst readers.

Like most Jamaicans, I grew up hearing stories about “The wickedest city in the world” – no, not Sodom & Gomorrah – none other than Port Royal, Jamaica. Reading Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” and going on field trips to Port Royal itself sparked a life-long interest within me. I always thought the birthplace of piracy was elsewhere – Jamaica was the last place that would’ve crossed my mind as a child.

I’m addicted to Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant – but not for the reasons you think, lol. Anyway – there’s always been some debate or other about whether or not the shows glamorise teen pregnancy or not and, honestly, I don’t think they do.
