Last night, I ran into a preview of an upcoming documentary called Dark Girls. The name alone should suggest what the film is about – an exploratory look at the “deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color – particularly dark-skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture”. You may ask why on Earth I’d be sharing this, but we have the same issues right here in Jamaica. One only has to take a look around and see the men, women, boys and girls who fervently practise (and advocate) bleaching of the skin.  Scheduled for release in Fall/Winter of 2011, this documentary promises to be powerful.

Although I’ve never produced a motion picture, as an artist and an on-again-off-again writer, it’s easy to understand the creative process involved in bringing an intangible idea into the realm of the tangible. Sometimes, whether intentionally or otherwise, you end up having work of your contemporaries influence you. This can go one of two ways – the influence can either be a tasteful one communicated via way of a nod to the original creators, OR, it can be a flat-out rip-off. Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill would be an excellent example of the former. The video’s creator is robgwilson.com.

Get a load of the quality of the animation this film is offering! Seems like almost all the  movies being produced these days are remakes of older movies, comic books or TV series. In case you’ve never heard of The Adventures of Tin Tin, read here. I’m waiting patiently to find out if a full-length feature film based on Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors is gonna be released.

In honour of today’s TT on Twitter (#childhoodmemories), I present the opening sequence of Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors – my all-time favourite cartoon. I’m still quite upset that I don’t have any closure regarding Jayce’s story. *sigh*

Hey y’all! Have been on a bit of a hiatus from blogging due to work commitments BUT, if you’ve been following me on Twitter then you’ll know I’ve been raving about SXSW 2011 for the past week or two (lol). I ran into this video on YouTube, it’s a film trailer/bumper for a movie called “Mario” – it’s about everyone’s favourite Koopa-stomping plumber and his bid to save his girlfriend Peach. The cool thing about it is how the video game’s plot has been juxtaposed in the real world in this film. I think it ROCKS and if Joe Nicolosi goes ahead with it, I’ll be sure to watch it! Check out the rest of Nicolosi’s film bumpers here.
